About the Foundation
Since 2013, Grandmothers Against Gun Violence (GAGV), has been at the forefront of the gun violence prevention movement in Washington state and beyond. With over 1100 members, GAGV has helped to ensure the passage of three gun violence prevention initiatives in Washington State, successfully lobbied the WA State legislature on a variety of gun safety bills, offered over 35 public education programs exploring a host of issues associated with gun violence, and built strong partnerships with many gun violence prevention groups .
In 2017, Grandmothers Against Gun Violence made a commitment to expand its impact by embracing a public health approach to gun violence prevention. This approach uses research to analyze the causes and consequences of gun violence and promotes evidence-based policies, programs and practices that reduce injuries and deaths due to gun violence. To fulfill this commitment, the Grandmothers Against Gun Violence Foundation was formed in 2018. GAGV Foundation’s mission is to fund research and education to end gun violence in our communities.
The GAGV Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit that accepts tax deductible donations. It has an active Board of Directors and its own bylaws and financial structure. The Foundation works closely with its affiliate organization GAGV to identify and activate strategies that will end gun violence and make communities safer for all.
